Different relationships of fine root traits with root ammonium and nitrate uptake rates in conifer forests

چکیده

Nitrogen (N) uptake by fine roots of trees is important for understanding root physiological function in forest ecosystems. However, direct investigations situ ammonium and nitrate rates are limited. Thus, we aimed to clarify inorganic N among tree species determine the factors controlling through relationships with traits cool temperate coniferous forests. Using a solution depletion method measuring uptake, observed relationship rate form NH4+ NO3– an intact system morphological traits, such as diameter, specific length (SRL), tissue density (RTD). The this study preferred NO3−. Across species, there were significant between SRL, RTD; contrast, only RTD had impact on NO3− uptake. Relationships differed NO3–. We found that depended characteristics adsorbed soil assimilation efficiency. Our results make breakthrough prediction fundamental acquisition strategies.

Belowground fine root productivity, traits, and trees.

A long-standing debate in plant ecology is how plant diversity – including species richness, functional, and phylogenetic diversity – determines primary productivity aboveground and belowground (Tilman et al., 1997; Cadotte et al., 2009). A leading mechanism linking diversity and productivity posits that diverse assemblages of plants are more likely to complement each other in resource acquirin...

Litterfall production and fine root dynamics in cool-temperate forests

Current understanding of litterfall and fine root dynamics in temperate forests is limited, even though these are the major contributors to carbon and nutrient cycling in the ecosystems. In this study, we investigated litterfall and fine root biomass and production in five deciduous and four coniferous forests at the Gwangneung Experimental Forest in Korea. We used ingrowth cores to measure fin...

Transporters Involved in Root Nitrate Uptake and Sensing by Arabidopsis

Most plants use nitrate (NO3-) as their major nitrogen (N) source. The NO3- uptake capacity of a plant is determined by three interdependent factors that are sensitive to NO3- availability: (i) the functional properties of the transporters in roots that contribute to the acquisition of NO3- from the external medium, (ii) the density of functional transporters at the plasma membrane of root cell...

Signal interactions in the regulation of root nitrate uptake.

In most aerobic soils, nitrate (NO3(-)) is the main nitrogen source for plants and is often limiting for plant growth and development. To adapt to a changing environment, plants have developed complex regulatory mechanisms that involve short and long-range signalling pathways in response to both NO3(-) availability in the soil and other physiological processes like growth or nitrogen (N) and ca...
